KOKS BJ (1998) Possible breeding attempt of Turnstone Arenaria interpres in the Dutch Wadden Sea. LIMOSA 71 (1): 34-36.

A Turnstone in breeding plumage was observed in a salt marsh north of Hornhuizen, Groningen province, May 22, 1995. The 'contact rattle' was heard several times while the bird wheeled over the observer. Two Turnstones were present at the same location on June 13, but a nest could not be found. The salt marsh was flooded due to spring tide two days later, but still, two Turnstones in breeding plumage were present. They chased a third bird, thereby showing territorial behaviour. No birds were observed later on in the season or in subsequent years. After extinction in 1850 and 1900, resp., Turnstones breed in small numbers in the German and Danish Wadden Sea again since 1982, but have never bred in The Netherlands.
