In spring 1989 Coot Fulica atra , in six polders in the central part of The Netherlands, 14 nests of Coots were found on dry grassland, at distances of 9 to 27 mfrom open water. All nests but one failed due to trampling by cattle and mowing. The single successful nest was situated in a deep wheeltrack.
