BERG A VAN DER, BAPTIST HJM & MEININGER PL (1978) Two breeding cases of the Red-breasted Merganser Mergus serrator in the Lake Grevelingen. LIMOSA 51 (1): 1-5.

Since 1973 small numbers of Red-breasted Mergansers Mergus serrator are summering in the Lake Grevelingen (Zuid-Holland and Zeeland). The behaviour of some birds indicated mating and breeding. On 10 August 1977 a female with two young, about two weeks old, was observed. On II August 1977 a female was found incubating a nest with four eggs and a downy chick. These constitute the 13th and 14th breeding case reported from the Netherlands since 1900 (the 5th and 6th accepted by the CNA,,,Dutch Rarities Committee) and the first outside of the Waddensea-area.
