MÖRZER BRUINS MF (1961) Age group ratio counts ot Barnacle Goose Branta leucopsis in the field in the Netherlands. LIMOSA 34 (1): 29-32.

Barnacle Goose Branta leucopsis Field counts of age group ratio's in the wintering grounds can give valuable information on the breeding succes of the preceding summer. At the request of the Wildfowl Trust. the R.1.V.O.N started age group field counts of barnacle geese as a detail of the counts of wintering barnacle geese already done for some years. The difference adult and juvenile birds are given (d. literature). The differences of the great and median wingcoverts, especially the clear white tips in the adult birds, seem to be the best field character to distinguish adult from juvenile birds. During the season 59/60 only few age group counts could be made. The results are given in table 1. They give the impression that in 59/60 the percentage of juvenile birds in the Netherlands has been higher than in Great Britain
