Jan Schoppers (2026) Little Grebe Tachybaptus ruficollis nest squatted by an Eurasian Coot Fulica atra. LIMOSA 99 (1): 39-40.
In the spring of 2021, a Coot took over the nest of a Little
Grebe. Whether the Coot bred successfully remained
unknown. It is rare that Coots take over nests of other
species, although cases of Coots squatting nests of Great
Crested Grebe Podiceps cristatus have been reported in the
Netherlands before.
