COUL PG OP DE (1932) Wieringermeerpolder in the breeding season of 1932. LIMOSA 5 (1): 12-18.
Fifth publication of the Club of Zuiderzee observers The article gives a description of a visit to the Wieringermeerpolder (the first reclaimed part of the Zuider-Sea) in the breedingperiod of 1932, followed by a comparison with the situation in 1931. On a strip of territory (see for this the little map on pag. 14) - a very fine breeding-opportunity - was found: Recurvi1'ostra avosetta L., a great number of pairs. Charadrius a. alexandrinus L., a great number, likely coming from a breeding-place in the north of the polder (see little map, Terrein I 1931), which has now disappeared. Sterna h. hirundo L., a colony of some hundreds of pairs. Sterna ma,crura Naum., one pair between hirundo. Sterna a. albifro'ns Pall., only a few pairs near the hinmdo-colony (Jast year a great number in the north of the polder, Terrein I 1931). The question about the origin of the different breeding-arts and colonies (already discussed by VAN Dobben in this paper 4, 1932, p. 115- 119) is still not cleared-up ##### Common Redshank Tringa totanus Pied Avocet Recurvirostra avosetta Common Tern Sterna hirundo Arctic Tern Sterna paradisaea = Sterna macrura Little Tern Sternula albifrons = Sterna albifrons Kentish Plover Charadrius alexandrinus Common Ringed Plover Charadrius hiaticula Eurasian Skylark Alauda arvensis Blue-headed Wagtail Motacilla flava White Wagtail Motacilla alba Meadow Pipit Anthus pratensis House Sparrow Passer domesticus Whimbrel Numenius phaeopus Dunlin Calidris alpina = Calidris alpina schinzii Eurasian Oystercatcher Haematopus ostralegus Ruff Philomachus pugnax Northern Shoveler Anas clypeata = Spatula clypeata Mallard Anas platyrhynchos Common Teal Anas crecca Black-headed Gull Chroicocephalus ridibundus = Larus ridibundus Common Shelduck Tadorna tadorna European Herring Gull Larus argentatus Sandwich Tern Thalasseus sandvicensis = Sterna sandvicensis Great Cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo
