OUWENEEL GL (1992) Short contributions: Ospreys Pandion haliaetus on the Ventjagersplaat.. LIMOSA 65 (3): 125-126.

The Ventjagersplaat is a vast area of shallow waters and mudflats, situated in the Haringvliet, province of ZuidHolland. It is a principal haunt for Ospreys in the SW part of The Netherlands during late summer. The Haringvliet was closed from the sea in 1970. From that year on, one or two Ospreys (three in 1991) stayed on the Ventjagersplaat in August-September. Birds often perch on poles in the water, and on pylons in the immediate vicinity. It is suggested that the presence of these artifacts, beside the local adundance of bream, render the area particularly attractive for Ospreys. Osprey Pandion haliaetus
