SCHEPERS F, ASSELDONK E VAN & LINSEN F (1992) Short contributions: Return of the Peregrine Falco peregrinus as a breeding bird in The Netherlands?. LIMOSA 65 (1): 28-29.

In 199 I, and perhaps in 1990 a pair of Peregrines successfully bred at a building in Limburg, in the south of The Netherlands. The nest, an old nest of a Carrion Crow Corvus corone, was located at a height of 40 m at a tower. Two female young fledged. In years preceding this breeding case, a pair of Peregrines wintered at the same location. The species has bred eleven times in The Netherlands in this century, twice on Wadden Islands (ground nests) and nine times in the Veluwe-area (tree nests). The 1991 breeding case is the first successful one in The Netherlands since 1979. Considering the increase and northward expansion of the Peregrine breeding population in Germany and the fact that breeding on buildings was recorded at a distance of only 80 km from the Limburg breeding case in 1991, it is likely that the Limburg breeding birds were of German origin. Attention should be paid to large buildings in The Netherlands, as these may offer suitable nesting habitat for Peregrines Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrinus
