GANZENWERKGROEP NEDERLAND/BELGIË, (1990) Geese counts in The Netherlands and Belgium in 1987 - 1988. LIMOSA 63 (2): 70-79.

This paper deals with the results of the geese counts in The Netherlands and Belgium during 1987/88 (fig. 1-2, tab. 1-11). The total number of geese counted in the two countries amounted to 658 000 and 30 000, respectively. The peak number of 106 000 Barnacle Geese in January was a record for The Netherlands. In 1987/88, many Tundra Bean and White-fronted Geese spent the winter east ofThe Netherlands, as a result of the mild weather. Pink-footed Geese already returned to the north in the second half of November. A large number of at least 27 000 Greylag Geese wintered in The Netherlands. Main distribution areas for Barnacle Geese were the Wadden Sea area and the province of Friesland, for autumn Greylag Geese the Oostvaardersplassen and the Dollard and Lauwersmeer areas, for wintering Greylags the Delta area, SW.
