Little Tern Sternula albifrons = Sterna albifrons the western part of the Westerschelde, not far outside the coast of Zeeland Flanders, are the High Slabs. This area consists of sand and mudflats and covers with a high surface area of c. 60 acres at low tide and of c. I 800 acres. The Hooge plates are surrounded by trenches up to 40 m deep. in this gullies running strong tidal currents, with mean high water is the tidal range 3.9 m, during spring 5 meters.
