BRUIJN O DE (1988) Short contributions: Ringing recovery of an Eagle Owl Bubo bubo in the Netherlands. LIMOSA 61 (3): 190-190.

Eurasian Eagle Owl Bubo bubo In December 1984, a ringed Eagle Owl was found dead along a highway in the eastern part of the Netherlands. It turned to be a captive bred bird, which had been released in September 1983 at a distance of 95 km in Federal Republic of Germany. Two previous Dutch records of straggled Eagle Owls in 1960-80 have shown that individuals of this species can maintain themselves for several years in suitable habitats in the Netherlands. Nevertheless, great caution has to be exercised as regards reintroduction of Eagle Owls in areas (like the Netherlands and NW. Germany), where this species has disappeared from wildlife centuries ago (cL Glutz von Blotzheim & Bauer 1980).
