LENSINK R (1986) Short contributions: Migration of Blackbird Turdus merula, Song Thrush T. philomelos, and Redwing T. iliacus during day and night. LIMOSA 59 (1): 40-40.

Common Blackbird Turdus merula Song Thrush Turdus philomelos Redwing Turdus iliacus In the period 15 October (06.28 h) till 21 October (10.00 h), the diurnal and nocturnal migration of Blackbird, Song Thrush, and Redwing was continuously observed. During the night, callings of birds were counted, during the day numbers of birds. The results are summarized in fig. 1 (absolute numbers). The patterns of migration are similar to that in Finland (Siivonen 1936), Switzerland (Dorka 1966), and Sweden (Alerstam 1975). It is suggested that every bird species has its optimal migration period within the day or night.
