ROOTH J (1985) Short contributions: Recent increase of the breeding population of the Cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo. LIMOSA 58 (4): 162-162.

Great Cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo During the late 1970's and early 1980's, the number of Dutch Cormorants increased from at least 3000 breeding pairs in 1977-78 to more than 10 000 in 1985, which is more than twice as many as the former maximum of this century (1940: 4000 pairs). In the 1960's, the population was at its minimum (1962: 800 pairs). At present, twelve breeding colonies are operative (1970's: 2-5), which contribute for 50 percent of the NW, European breeding population of sinensis.
