IJZENDOORN EJ VAN & HEER P DE (1985) Review of the Dutch Avifaunistic List. LIMOSA 58 (2): 65-72.

CDNA = Committee Rarities Dutch Avifauna The Netherlands Rarities Committee (CDNA) is currently undertaking a review of the list of bird species recorded in the Netherlands. The main reason for this review is the increase of knowledge on field identification in the last decade. This increase did not only provide the opportunity to look at records more critically but it showed also the need to do so. The committee has considered species included in the A vifauna van Nederland (CNA 1970) or added to the list in the years 1970-82 as well as additional species included in the Dutch Birding Association Checklist under category A, B, and C (Oreel1980a, b). The first part of the review consists of screening the list of species recorded in the Netherlands since 1800 up to and including 1982. The purpose was to find just one acceptable record for species of which less than two records a year have been accepted since 1969 (called rare species further on). The second part of the review will concern the other records of these species. The results of the first part of the review are presented in this paper. The rare species considered fall into four categories (tab. 1-4). Table 1 lists all rare species of which photographica1 evidence has been published up to 1 July 1983 and of which month, year, province, and photographer and/or other observers are known. Table 2 lists all rare species (not listed in tab. 1) of which at least one museum specimen collected in the Netherlands is available. Of the specimen, month, year, province and circumstances of collecting are known and considered reliable. Table 3 lists all rare species of which the evidence of their occurrence is based upon written descriptions only; thus convincing photographic evidence has not been published and sufficiently documented museum specimens are lacking. Table 4 lists all species which according to the committee are not sufficiently documented for inclusion on the list of species recorded in the Netherlands on 1 January 1983. These species have been withdrawn from the list. Wallcreeper Tichodroma muraria and Snow Finch Montifringilla nivalis have been withdrawn from the list in 1981 and 1982 (Limosa 54: 134,55: 136).
