DUIN G VAN & VOGELZANG F (1985) Short contributions: Hobby Falco subbuteo hunting migrating terns. LIMOSA 58 (1): 32-32.

In August 1982 and 1983 six times a Hobby was seen hunting, attacking, and carrying terns in the Southwest- IJsselmeer area. The Hobby carried a Common Tern Sterna hirundo once and a Black Tern Chlidonias niger thrice, in one instance the Black Tern escaped. A description of the hunting behaviour is given. Hunting on the almost invariably high migrating terns was probably performed by the male of a breeding pair c. 4 km away. In the period described, the young were nearly fledged and Black Terns were temporarily abundant. Eurasian Hobby Falco subbuteo Common Tern Sterna hirundo Black Tern Chlidonias niger
