WETTEN JCJ VAN (1984) Spoonbill Platalea leucorodia with a roseate colouration. LIMOSA 57 (1): 28-28.
During April-June 1983 a Spoonbill with a roseate plumage was observed in the colony in the Zwanewater (Noord-Holland). Only mantle, rump, tail, belly and underwings, which are preened with fat from the uropygal gland, were roseate. All other parts were normally coloured. Food with much carotenes and the excretion of these carotenes by the uropygal gland might have caused this colouration.Eurasian Spoonbill Platalea leucorodia
