| LEBRET T (1982) On the sex ratio of Shovelers Anas clypeata in autumn and winter. LIMOSA 55 (3): 73-78.
Northern Shoveler Anas clypeata = Spatula clypeata In the period August 1980-1anuary 1981 the sex ratio of Shovelers Anas clypeata was studied in the Veerse Meer (Zeeland) SW-Netherlands. This lake is brackish; emergent vegetation is lacking so all birds could be observed easily. The proportion of females was only 815% (fig. 1). They were more numerous at two other sites which are used as moulting place by dabbling ducks. Short cold spells caused no significant changes in sex ratio. In the Camargue (France) the proportion of females was higher than in the study area but males were dominating in this area too. In Senegal (West Africa) females were dominating only in one out of three counts.
