SLINGS QL (1979) Raddes Warbler in The Netherlands. LIMOSA 52 (3): 155-160.

On 8th October 1977 a Raddes Warbler Phylloscopus schwarzi was captured at Castricum ringing station on the Dutch North Sea coast. In this note the bird is described in detail. This is the second record of this species for the Netherlands. It is shown that due to the incomplete description P. armandii cannot be ruled out in the first accepted record of the Raddes Warbler for the Netherlands (Texel, October 1974). It is stressed that ringers should be aware of these far-eastern species in order to help solve some problems related to the phenomenon of vagrancy. For instance the question: does vagrancy have survival value for the species (in testing new migration routes and wintering areas) or are stragglers really lost? The occurrence of the Raddes Warbler in northwestern Europe until 1977 is summarized. Because of the weather situation it seems likely that the Castricum Raddes Warbler had arrived some time before it was captured. C.D.N.A.: Bevestigde waarneming.
