OUWENEEL GL (1974) Short announcements: Sandwich Terns Sterna sandvicensis in the province of Zeeland in January-February 1974. LIMOSA 47 (3): 152-152.

Sandwich Tern Thalasseus sandvicensis = Sterna sandvicensis After a december-and January-record of a Sandwich Tern Sterna sandvicensis in the province of Zeeland in winter 1972-1973 (Limosa 46: 243-244), again in January and February 1974 some Sandwich Terns were observed at the same location. On January 19th 1974 one Sandwich Tern was seen with traces of juvenile plumage on the upper parts, on January 26th one, and on January 27th three birds were observed. All these observations took place in the southern part of the Brouwershavense Gat. After the closure of the Grevelingen, the Brouwershavense Gat has the character of a bay, the southern part of it protected against the south-westernwind by the northern coast of Schouwen. During a storm on 9th February 1974 two Sandwich Terns were seen, resting among gulls near an inland lake on Schouwen, about 800 meters from the observation-place indicated above. It is suggested that there is a possibility that these observations are not casual, as during two following winters the species is frequenting the same location for a couple of weeks at least
