At the end of July 1972 bird counts were made during high tide in the whole Dutch Waddensea area. The birds counted are given in Table 1. For waders, gulls ducks and geese the figures are compared with those of August 1963 (Rooth 1966) and December 1966 (Spaans 1967). As far as the waders are concerned it is suggested that not all species reach their peak numbers at the samel time during fall-migration. Figures are given for Curlew, Redshank, Knot and Oystercatcher.
