VOOUS KH (1973) Tawny Eagle in The Netherlands. LIMOSA 46 (3): 233-238.

Tawny Eagle Aquila rapax This is the description with commentaries of the first record of a Tawny Eagle in the Netherlands. The bird was observed and photographed by H. Enkelaar, F. Haak and C. Riemslag at Biervliet, Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, on 8 May 1967. It shows all characters of an immature (probably in its second?? or third year) Middle Asiatic Steppe Eagle (most probably Aquila rapax orientalis). The flight picture (Fig. I) agrees remarkably well with the picture of an Asiatic Steppe Eagle wintering in Kenya and reproduced in Christensen et al. (1972), Figure 15 (bottom right). A comparison with the theoretical problems around the subspecific identity and the feral origin of the Tawny Eagle found dead in Kent on 4 April 1968 (which was in a younger and lighter plumage than the Dutch bird) has been made (d. Harrison & Scott 1972).
