WOLFF WJ (1973) Results of five years of wader counts on the island of Schouwen. LIMOSA 46 (1): 21-41.

From February 1964 to June 1969 fortnightly or monthly wader counts were carried out along the southern coast of the Dutch island of Schouwen. The results show the fluctuations in numbers in the course of the year for 21 species of waders. With these data at hand it is possible to estimate the value of the Oosterschelde estuary and of the Delta area as a feeding ground for waders. About 22 millions of wader-days are spent annually in the Oosterschelde estuary; in the Delta area as a whole about 50 millions of wader-days are spent annually ##### Grey Plover Pluvialis squatarola Eurasian Oystercatcher Haematopus ostralegus European Golden Plover Pluvialis apricaria Common Ringed Plover Charadrius hiaticula Kentish Plover Charadrius alexandrinus Common Snipe Gallinago gallinago Eurasian Curlew Numenius arquata Ruddy Turnstone Arenaria interpres Whimbrel Numenius phaeopus Black-tailed Godwit Limosa limosa Bar-tailed Godwit Limosa lapponica Common Sandpiper Actitis hypoleucos = Tringa hypoleucos Common Redshank Tringa totanus Spotted Redshank Tringa erythropus Common Greenshank Tringa nebularia Red Knot Calidris canutus Little Stint Calidris minuta Dunlin Calidris alpina = Calidris alpina schinzii Curlew Sandpiper Calidris ferruginea Ruff Philomachus pugnax Pied Avocet Recurvirostra avosetta
