LOTERIJMAN JA & SIKKEMA CP (1972) Short announcements: An American Pectoral Sandpiper Calidris melanotos near the Lauwersmeer. LIMOSA 45 (3): 190-190.

An American Pectoral Sandpiper Calidris melanotos has been observed in the Northern part of the' Netherlands (53?23'33 N, 6?9'25 E) on 4th, 5th and 6th September 1971, at a pond near the Western shore of the Lauwersmeer, a lake which originated from the Lauwerszee estuary after the closing by a dike in 1969. The bird showed a rather even greyish-brown upper breast rather sharply cut from the white underpars. The white colour of the lower breast extended upwards along the front edge of the wings, this pattern resembling that of the Common Sandpiper. The legs were ochre-coloured. Simultaneously with the American Pectoral Sandpiper a Dowitcher has been observed, which is described in the previous paper (de Boer et al. 1972). Pectoral Sandpiper Calidris melanotos
