SPEEK BJ (1971) Invasion of Nutcrackers Nucifraga caryocatactes in the Netherlands in 1968. LIMOSA 44 (1): 11-18.

Invasion of Nutcrackers in the Netherlands in 1968 Spotted Nutcracker Nucifraga caryocatactes The invasion of Nutcrackers Nucifraga caryocatactes in The Netherlands started at the end of June 1968. Most birds arrived the first week of August 1968 in the north-eastern part of the country. The birds reached the southwestern part of Holland by the end of August. The number of birds decreased noticeably after September 1968. During the invasion 100 Nutcrackers have been ringed in The Netherlands, of which 8 recoveries have been obtained from France. This suggests that many birds have continued their migration. During the winter of 1968/1969 Nutcrackers still remained in The Netherlands. Several of these birds have been observed in the next summer. At least one pair bred succesfully.
