PERDECK AC (1962) Report of the ring Vogeltrekstation number 45 (1960). LIMOSA 35 (1): 78-150.

This report closes half a century of bird ringing in the Netherlands. Therefore a list of the numbers ringed and recovered in this period is given. A distinction is made between real recoveries and retraps, the latter being defined as recoveries of his own ringed birds reported by the ringer himself. Previously these were included in the counts, but from this report onwards they will be neglected. They are, however, mentioned in the list 191I-1960 separately. The rate of recovery is added of those species from which more than 100 individuals have been ringed. It appears that during 50 years 870.000 birds have been ringed in over 200 species. The starling accounts for one fifth of this total and very big numbers are also ringed of chaffinch and great tit. A mean rate of recovery of 3% gives a total of 26.400 recoveries. Mallard (4.900 recoveries) and teal (3.300) take great parts in this, followed by starling (2.500) and herring-gull (2.100). Especially after the second world war the scheme grew quickly, which is illustrated by the following figures: number of birds ringed in the first 30 years: 252.000, in the following 10 years: 143.000 and in the last 10 years 476.000. In order to prevent overloading of the administration new ringers are not accepted and the ringing of a number of species is prohibited. ##### Red-throated Diver Gavia stellata Great Northern Diver
