JAPPIN HJ & VELDEN B VAN DER (1959) A brooding case of the Mediterranean Gull Larus melanocephalus in the Province of Zuid?Holhnd. Netherlands. LIMOSA 32 (4): 183-185.

Mediterranean Gull Ichthyaetus melanocephalus = Larus melanocephalus On May 18th, 1959 a nest (with 2 eggs) of the Mediterranean Gull was found in a colony of Black-headed Gulls on a sandbank near the isle of Goeree Overflakkee, in the Province of Zuid-Holland, Netherlands. On June 5th it contained 3 eggs. The young ones hatched safely, but one of them was killed by a Black-headed Gull later on. The others were nearly fledged when they were seen last. Four out of the eight records in the Netherlands concern sin g I e birds, only seen in a colony of Black-headed Gulls, but in 1935 a specimen was coupled with Black-headed Gull. This time however two birds were seen, the second also in the neighborhood of the brooding bird.
