OOSTERVELD EB (2015) Oystercatchers returned early to inland breeding grounds in 2014. LIMOSA 88 (1): 43-45.

Oystercatchers Haematopus ostralegus that breed in Frisian inland meadows winter in the Wadden Sea. In late winter they arrive back on their inland breeding sites. This contribution describes the earliest arrival in 20 years (19 February, Fig. 1) at Surhuisterveen, a breeding site 25 km from the Wadden Sea in 2014. The winter of 2014 was extremely warm. Arrival dates in the period 1993- 2014 are strongly correlated with the temperature sum until 1 March.
