A Red-rumped Swallow was observed near Bergen (The Netherlands) during the end of May and the beginning of June 1954. The authors observed as most striking field characters: Heavier build than swallow, red neck, rump patch partly buff-white, partly chestnut-red, tail with long streamers, but no white. Close observation revealed the fine, longitudinal red stripes on the under parts, the chestnut red eye stripe and the white spots in the neck below the red band, which were clearly visible when the bird was preening. This is the first time the Red-rumped Swallow was seen in Holland.
