Haverschmidt F. (1967) De broedkolonies van de Rode Ibis (Eudocimus ruher) in Suriname in 1966. ARDEA 55 (1-2): 141-143
The breeding colony of the Scarlet Ibis (Eudocimus ruber) within the reserve at the mouth of the Coppename River, Surinam and described by de Vries (Ardea 54: 1-12) was deserted in. 1966. A new colony was found about 50 kms. to the east and outside the reserve. The breeding season was successful and 500 nestling Scarlet Ibises were ringed. Apart from the other herons (mentioned by de Vries) a small number of Cattle Egrets (Ardeola ibis) bred in this colony; one nest with 3 nestlings was found. The whole coast of Surinam was searched for the presence of colonies of Scarlet Ibises. Apart from the colony mentioned above only two other were found: one within the Wia Wia Reserve in the east and one west of Coronie in the western part of the country. There are no details available about the two last mentioned colonies.
